Due to the stigma that arises out of actions of a few, whole communities can become stigmatised:
ACCM has started a campaign to work in the community to ensure that information of how to prevent being victimised reaches all Parents, all young people in areas that are potentially vulnerable to acts of grooming of Children and young people; so that they can avoid exploitation.
Initial steps:
- Diversity and inclusion is central to the work of ACCM, in this project we engage with all.
- Create increased public awareness of the dangers of grooming children & young people for exploitation
- Sensitisation: through a small group of “Key Workers and Volunteers”
- Small Meetings with Faith groups and Community Groups leaders
- Small seminars and working groups meetings
- Immediate support for victims
- Identify funding
- Set up a support and counselling service
- Ensure legal redress for victims of grooming
Medium term steps:
- Developing useful information, leaflets, website, telephone helpline
- Development of a National network
- Engage young people pooling points including Children & youth organisations, Schools etc
Long term:
- Strengthen the developing of useful information, leaflets, website, telephone helpline
- Strengthen the developing National network
- Strengthen the Engagement of young people pooling points e.g youth organisations, Schools etc
The work on Anti Grooming is in its preliminary stages and needs support and funds to become a strong focal point of reference and action.
